Wuyou Monastery

In ancient times, Lingyun Hill and Wuyou Hill were one hill. But to reduce the seething at the juncture of the rivers and facilitate the traffic of boats, local prefecture magistrate Li Bin made a cut in Mahao to divert the water. From then on Wuyou Hill stood alone in the water and thus earned the name "separete hill" Today a bridge connects the two Hills.
Surrounded by water, Wuyou Hill is covered with bamboos and other trees, green the year round. Visitors can get a bird's eye view from any place on top of Wuyou Hill - the three rivers, the endless mountains, the fields and houses, and the city of Leshan.
On the top of Wuyou Hill, it has become known as the Wuyou Monastery which was built by Monk Huijing in the Tang Dynasty from 776 to 779 during the reign of Emperor Dezong. Of high artistic value are a bronze statue of the Buddha Wuyou made a thousand years ago in the Tang Dynasty and an iron statue of Maitreya made 700 years ago in the Song Dynasty.
