Gerald Sina, director of Urwibutso, a farm attached to a popular truck-stop, has been rearing pigs with music, a technique he discovered in Belgium six years ago and is said to have doubled yields in terms of number of offspring, the quality of the meat and their weight.

One step at a time

A veterinary surgeon pets a year-old dog named Mila, a stray that was found with all her paws cut off in a horrific case of animal cruelty in Belgrade, Serbia. The dog, whose name means "darling," became a cause celebre, and local media and bussinesses rallied to raise money for her care. She has recovered well after months of medical care and even started to walk with her stumps in bandages.
