Fresh from a dip in the sea, a polar bear (above) treads terra firma at Abloviak Fiord. Abloviak offers one of the most reliable spots in Nunavik for sightings of this threatened species; another is Akpatok Island, northwest of Abloviak Fiord in Ungava Bay, where writer Costas Christ observed six polar bears in one afternoon.
