These days, celebrities like Fergie and Heidi Klum are heating up runways and department stores with their own fashion lines. Find out how Hollywood’s finest are joining the fashion industry – and whether their brands are succeeding or failing.

The singer and celebrity mom branched into high-end fashion and has received rave reviews for several of her collections. "I started L.A.M.B. so I’d have a creative outlet after my music career and it’s just taken off," she said to the Associated Press. "But I would have never done it if I wasn’t going to do it for real.”

Wear it like Beckham

When your nickname is “Posh,” it’s only a matter of time before you try your hand at fashion. The former Spice Girl and wife of soccer star David Beckham, often seen dressed in skinny jeans, launched her collection, called "Victoria Beckham Denim," at Bergdorf Goodman on Feb. 16, 2010, in New York City. Composed of denim jackets, cutoff shorts and leggings, the collection starts at $230.

Fergalicious footwear

“I’m definitely a shoe lover,” said singer Fergie in an interview with Reuters about her new shoe line partnership with Brown Shoes. “The right pair of shoes can change the feel of an outfit, and even change how a woman feels about herself.”

The shoe collection, which hit stores in March 2009, includes sky-high platforms and sandals in fun colors and contemporary designs.

Making it work

“Project Runway” host and supermodel Heidi Klum promotes her 20-piece jean collection for Jordache on Sept, 9, 2008, in New York City. Klum reportedly provided the famous jeans company with favorite pieces from her own wardrobe to help inspire the line’s style, which she hoped would cater to busy young moms.

To dye for

Model and socialite Lauren Bush launched a ready-to-wear collection made with sustainable, eco-friendly fabrics like bamboo and organic cotton. “If I was going to make a line, it was important that it was about low-impact fabrics,” Bush told WWD.

In addition, 10 percent of the proceeds from the 15-piece collection benefits the organization Women for Women.

Animal-friendly fashion

Natalie Portman celebrated the launch of her vegan footwear line at Te Casan on Feb.12, 2008, in New York City. The “Star Wars” actress helped design the shoe collection, which featured flirty feminine styles like red faux-patent leather Mary Jane heels and satin ballet flats.

In less than a year, however, the Natalie Portman Collection for Té Casan folded after its parent company closed up shop.

Pete Wentz made an unforgettable entrance at the New York Fashion Week show of his line Clandestine Industries by Pete Wentz. With wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz in the audience, the Fall Out Boy bassist emerged in a gurney, complete with a Hannibal Lecter-esque mask.

Hand it to me

Camila Alves launched a luxury handbag line called “Muxo,” who is a “goddess of the water” in African legend, at L.A.’s trendy Kitson stores. The model and mother to Matthew McConaughey’s children used Brazilian leather and hardware for her collection, which was also partly designed by her mother.

In late 2009, however, Kitson claimed Alves’ line wasn’t selling because she didn’t promote it well enough.

Best foot forward

Indie style icon and “Big Love” actress Chloe Sevigny launched the Chloe Sevigny Clothing Line for boutique Opening Ceremony. According to an interview with New York magazine, the star took inspiration from records by David Bowie and The Smiths. “I thought of things I’d always wanted other people to make and we just made them,” she said.
