Jennifer Pitts Adair kneels, June 20, in the spot where she survived a direct hit from an April 27 EF-5 tornado near Athens, Ala. The twister destroyed her home down to the foundation and left her lying on the floor of what was once her closet. Yet, she came through with just a shoulder injury. Adair credits her survival to lessons learned from the 1974 tornado that claimed three relatives years before she was even born.
