Kansas City, Mo.

This neighborhood is famous for its hidden “pocket parks.” Tucked in under trees and behind backyards this 1928 Tudor style home looks like a fairy tale house with a winding walkway that leads to a pretty front door. The dark molding really works well in the living room along with wood floors and the brick and stone fireplace. The dining room feels peaceful with crown molding, chair rails and original windows. The pretty kitchen has double French doors leading to a nice backyard deck. The bonus is a three-season porch with tile floors and a pretty stained glass window!

Bartlesville is about 50 miles north of Tulsa. It has two magic ingredients – a strong real estate market and a strong job market. It’s home to ConocoPhillips, the big energy company. This home has a pretty stone façade with arched windows and doors and a big old tree in the front yard. The living room has a contemporary feel with a high vaulted ceiling and a fireplace built into the TV niche. Those marble looking floors are actually stained concrete! A bit weird – they almost look water-stained. The long open kitchen has white cabinets and dark granite counters. The master bedroom is on the ground floor with crown moldings and a granite tile bath. There’s a covered patio and privacy fence in the backyard that could use a few foundation plantings.

Wilmington is an old port city on the Atlantic. It’s a friendly place with a spring azalea festival, a fall Riverfest and a strong real estate market. This 1903 mellow yellow bungalow is in Wilmington’s huge 300-block historic district. It looks like it’s straight out of “Southern Living!” There are hardwood floors throughout and an arched doorway between the living room and dining room. The living room is also yellow, but I’d change the black walls in the dining room. The all-white kitchen has totally updated appliances. There’s a screened-in porch and a patio in the shady backyard, perfect for relaxing on a lazy southern summer night!
