This picture was taken from Amboseli National Reserve, Kenya, with Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, in the background. This is one of the pictures which I had hoped to capture, and thanks to our guide, Fredrick Ngoli, it happened.

This image is one of my favorites from traveling in Kenya last summer. The colors and patterns of this barber shop drew me into photographing it in a way that depicted not only the vibrance of the shop, but also the culture of the people who lived there.

Kenya has always been a place close to my heart. I was revisiting the country after 20 years, showing my son a place I lived and loved when I was a kid. This photo is one of my favorites, maybe because the tree seems to stand as a reminder of my attachment to a time and place that has shaped my own life significantly.
