Hula geese

Little Hawaiian geese are pictured at an animal park in St. Peter-Ording, Germany on April 21. A total of five little geese hatched earlier this week. The Hawaiian goose is one of the world's most critically endangered waterfowls and Hawaii's state bird.

Fat cat

Meow, a 2-year-old tabby, tops the scale at over 39 pounds at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society in Santa Fe, New Mexico on April 19. Meow came to the shelter after his elderly owner could no longer care for the feline. The shelter plans to put the cat on a special diet so he can lose weight gradually. Adult cats typically weigh between 7 and 12 pounds.
