The inspiration: Mauve lipstick at Michael Kors

Do it yourself: Makeup artist Dick Page gave the models "pale, pearly" lips with Shiseido Perfect Rouge Tender Sheer Lip Color in Pout, a subtle rose shade, and added a touch of white highlighting powder to the center of the bottom lip. To avoid looking washed out in this pale hue, be sure there's another makeup element on your face – either a heavy-ish eye or a burst of color on the cheek will do the trick.

The inspiration: Orange red lips at Giambattista Valli

Do it yourself: Makeup artist Lisa Butler updated the classic red lip by choosing a shade with a hefty dose of orange, which she applied with a soft brush. You can prevent the color from looking clownish by applying a dab of lipstick or gloss to the center of your lips, then blending outward with your fingers.

The inspiration: Jewel-toned eyes at Derek Lam

Do it yourself: Designer Derek Lam handed makeup artist Tom Pecheux a Helmut Newton photograph to inspire this powerful look. In response, Pecheux layered purple shadow along the lid, nectarine along the brow bone, seafoam below the bottom lashes and turquoise on the inner corners. At home, play with shades within the same color family, like blue and green or pink and purple.

The inspiration: Shapely eye shadow at Giorgio Armani

Do it yourself: Makeup artist Linda Cantello was inspired by old black-and-white photographs when she created this graphic look. Rather than thinking of color, think in terms of shape. Following the line of your brow bone, trace a half-moon shape with dark shadow then fill in with a slightly lighter hue. And keep in mind--the look is prettiest when the outermost edge of your shadow lines up with the tail of your brow.

The inspiration: Healthy, glowy skin at Calvin Klein

Do it yourself: CoverGirl makeup artist Pat McGrath used a trio of products to give the models' skin a dewy luminescence: CoverGirl Clean Liquid Makeup, CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector and a layer of CoverGirl TruBlend MicroMinerals Finishing Veil in Translucent. At home, blend in a generous dollop of moisturizer, then follow with translucent powder instead of traditional foundation. You'll get adequate coverage without the matte chalkiness.

The inspiration: Intense false lashes at Yves Saint Laurent

Do it yourself: Makeup artist Tom Pecheux swept a mix of black pencil and powder along the top lids, then added trimmed-down false lashes to the bottom lids only. Add a few clusters of individual lashes to your bottom lashline for a punky, sexy effect − and remember, you may need to cut them a touch so they're not clunky or oversized.

The inspiration: Bright pink lips at Marc by Marc Jacobs

Do it yourself: Shiseido makeup artist Dick Page was inspired by the bright pops of color in the designer's spring collection, so he kept the face clean and the lips bold. Page prepped the mouth with Aquaphor, applied Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Fuschia and used this trick to keep the shade from being too severe: Tone it down by patting on a matching blush and a wash of translucent powder.
