Chiseled Bronzer For Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's Moscow premiere of Transformers 3, makeup artist Monika Blunder was so inspired by the star's Gucci gown that she kept the makeup suitably simple. "Honestly I thought it was so breathtakingly sexy and glamorous, that all I wanted was a little stain on her lips and very minimal makeup," she said. Blunder started with a wash of sheer beige foundation on the entire face. "I wanted her skin to have a very finished and flawless look to it," she explained. Next, she whisked peachy coral blush and tawny bronzer along the star's prominent cheekbones to give her face added dimension. Layering blush and bronzer is key when the rest of your makeup is simple and subtle.
Cherry Red Blush We often get asked what makeup to pair with bold crimson lips. (Liquid liner? A smokey eye? A bronzey glow?) Amber Heard effortlessly answered the question for us at an art show in New York City this week. Pay special attention to your foundation and concealer to get a clean, flawless coverage, then swirl a true red blush along your cheekbones and temples. Concentrating the color on the apples of your cheeks—as we often advise—can look fake and doll-like in this situation. However, a diffuse wash of a corresponding tone brings color to your face and balances the vivid pop on your lips. Employ the technique with other lipstick hues, too: Coral lip and coral blush; pink gloss and pink cheek stain.
Rusty Bronze Eye Shadow Kristen Stewart isn't one for heavy, over-the-top makeup moments, which is why the look Fiona Stiles created for her at the 2011 Los Angeles Film Festival hit all the right notes. She worked creamy bronze shadow into the top lashline, blending it upwards towards the brow bone before accenting with a shimmery burgundy powder. "I dabbed it at the outer corners of the eyes and below the lower lashes to add a bit more definition," she explained. Stiles finished with—what else?—tons of black eyeliner and vampy black mascara.
Natural Foundation "Katie Holmes has gorgeous skin with natural golden undertones," makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen, who works with the star, told us. Translation? It's not hard to make her look absolutely perfect, like she did at the Crystal + Lucy Awards this week in Beverly Hills. That being said, VanLeeuwen does employ a few tricks to get her coverage just right. "I apply a dime-sized drop of liquid foundation in a dotting motion rather than a wiping motion," he explains. "It imparts an even texture and allows you to really concentrate coverage where you need it most." He finishes with a dusting of translucent powder along the T-zone and forehead. "It leaves behind the perfect creamy glow," he says.
Cameron Diaz doesn't need much makeup. But one product you'll rarely catch her without? Sharp and deeply pigmented black eyeliner, like she's sporting here at Bad Teacher premiere in New York City. Many women think liner is too vampy for the daylight hours, but take a cue from Diaz and bring it into your everyday. A creamy pencil that glides easily is perfect for rimming both the top and bottom lashlines. Diaz applies the pencil along the waterline—that is the inner rim of the lashes, closest to your actual eye. It feels awkward at first, but after a bit of practice, the technique will become a go-to trick.
